 The Armory is a cultural and social center of the town, very much a place where music is heard, dances are held, shows of all kinds are given, & weddings and receptions take place.  The Armory is home to The Westerly Band and its historic library, oldest civic band in the country. The Band is people from all walks of life and is a town asset.

 The Armory assists a large assortment of civic and non-profit groups in the community. These groups hold their fundraisers or special events there, often raising funds, such as the Hospital Nurses, Fire Victims Fund, and the animal shelter. Cub Scouts have had their headquarters at the Armory and hold their Pinewood Derby there -- and Eagle Scout Courts of Honor have been held.

| The Armory is an enormous educational resource -- not only for tours and lectures, but for programs presented at the schools on topics such as the Revolutionary War, the best of Rhode Island, and the sense of the Westerly-Pawcatuck community. | The Armory offers the Town of Westerly a portion of its space. The Armory has brought prestige and renown to the Town of Westerly, placing the Armory on the National Register and as a Save America's Treasures Site, as declared by Congress. The Armory was the cornerstone of the nomination by the State Preservation Commission and the federal designation of Preserve America Community to the Town of Westerly, a step to large federal grants for the town.

Westerly is
becoming well known for its community and military museum, accessible
to all who visit the Armory and free of charge. This museum is integrated
into the building so that people attending events have the opportunity to
look at their community history & military history. Listed in The New
England Museum Guide and a part of the Chamber of Commerce's Duck-Boat
Tour, it is a tourist attraction.
