Mission & Goals of Westerly Armory Restoration, Inc.

The mission of Westerly Armory Restoration, Inc. is to restore the historic Westerly Armory (National Register of Historic Places and a Save America's Treasures Site) for use by its community as a museum and community building.  The goals are:

·        to complete the restoration of the Armory,

·        to create and manage an integrated museum displaying community and military memorabilia so people both visiting or using the Armory come in contact with the history of their community and state, and nation,

·        to celebrate the importance of the Armory (as a National Register building and Save America’s Treasures Site),

·        to attach community groups to the Armory (including a membership program) who respect its historic nature and who would help maintain the building,

·        to continue the development of the rental program to encourage the Armory's use by the community (and for community groups who may raise funds to support their causes, and to be a social bonding place),

·        to provide a variety of cultural and social programs that educate, entertain, and bond the people of the community (such as the Youth Leadership in Historic Preservation program),

·        to honor those currently serving and those who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces, and to remember the community's past,

·        to establish a financial (endowment) program that will serve to maintain the Armory after the restoration is complete,

·        to support the Town of Westerly such as supporting the town administration and school department, and

·        to provide a home for the historic Westerly Band, the oldest active civic band in the nation, and its historic library.
