Windows for Sale

The eyes are windows
to the soul.
Your posterity can be matched to that of
 the Westerly Armory.

WINDOWS – how important they are to the character of any building – to admit light, to protect from the elements, to permit cool breezes and fresh air to enter.

The historic Westerly Armory was built in 1901 with a large number of windows.  In the 1970s, those in the head house (front of Armory) were replaced with metal-framed thermopane windows.  These windows have since failed.  The windows in the drill shed (back of Armory) are original but are badly in need of restoration so they can open, close, and secure the building properly.  Windows are the last major phase of exterior restoration at the Armory. The project will cost approximately $100,000.  Would you help this building  which represents sacrifices of many made for our freedom.

Why restore the Armory and what does it do?  The Armory supports community groups, veterans, education, and the arts.  It is:

1) a growing museum of both community and military memorabilia

2) home to The Westerly Band (oldest active civic band in the nation) and their historic library and museum

3) a cultural & social center (rentable)

4) home to the Youth Leadership in Historic Preservation program

5) base for Red Cross emergency respondents

6) largest memorial to both current & past service members in South County.

If you assist in this project, a window of your choice can be named for you or your family, a loved one, a business, or a memorial.  Inscription ideas are shown below as is a list of the Armory’s windows.  Selection is on a first-come, first-served basis.  And remember – your gift is tax deductible.  For more information, call 401-596-8554 or see www.westerlyarmory.com .
